Success Story: Emily Cook
Emily Cook, Aerial Skiing
In 2002 I qualified for my first Olympic Games at Deer Valley in front of all my friends and family and it was just the best night in the world but unfortunately two weeks later I landed a jump on the flat part of the hill instead of the landing and just destroyed both of my feet.
Broke bones in both feet, tore ligaments in both feet, and dislocated the left foot really bad. I ended up watching the 2002 games from a wheelchair in the stands and it actually took three years of rehabilitation to get back from that injury.
During that time I learned so much about myself and I learned that I could overcome challenges that looked almost impossible.
Everyday that was hard, I just pictured walking into the opening ceremonies in 2006 with my teammates.
And I qualified for the Olympics again in 2006 and it was definitely one of the highlights of my life.
