What is the GoGirlGo! education curriculum?
This unique, free award-winning education program is designed for two age groups of girls. The first is designed for preteen girls ages 8-12, utilizing champion athletes and four GoGirl characters to educate girls about health-risk behaviors and life lessons on topics such as body image, bullying, family issues and smoking. All materials come in a GoGirlGo! kit, containing a GoGirls! Guide to Life, a GoGirls! Scrapbook, a Parents’ Guide and an instructional guide for adult leaders.
The program designed specifically for teen girls ages 13-18 has two components: the Ambassador Program and the Educational Program. The Ambassador Program encourages girls to be leaders in their schools and communities by getting inactive girls involved in physical activity, and is primarily a Web-based program girls can engage in at www.GoGirlWorld.org/Ambassador. The Educational Program for teen girls includes an instructional guide for adult leaders to help girls navigate through such difficult topics as self-esteem, drugs, diversity and accepting differences. The 14 sessions included in the Leaders’ Guide—each of which features a champion female athlete story and accompanying educational information—are available for girls to access online and can be printed for group sessions.
How do I get the free GoGirlGo! curriculum?
Order online or call the Women’s Sports Foundation at 800.227.3988 between the hours of 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Eastern Time. Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Materials will be received approximately six weeks after ordering.
How is the GoGirlGo! education curriculum administered?
The Women’s Sports Foundation has developed an education curriculum that is available free of charge to girl-serving organizations. We have designed the materials for girls’ sports and physical activity programs and their adult leaders. However, this information could be used by anyone interested in educating girls about health-risk behaviors. The curriculum consists of issue-based chapters that include champion athlete testimonials, a discussion of a specific topic, cartoons, activities and journal ideas. The intention is for this material to be experienced in a group/team environment with the understanding that navigating through adolescent pressures can be less taxing when it's shared and that girls need a safe space to discuss these important issues.
Is there a limit on the quantity of materials I can order?
Since they are available in limited supply and are quite costly to produce, we would appreciate it if you would only order what you will use. Materials for preteen girls ages 8-12 are packaged in kits. Each kit contains 12 40-page GoGirls! Guides to Life, 12 36-page GoGirls! Scrapbooks, 12 7-page Parents’ Guides and one 83-page instruction guide for the adult leader. The “kit” for teen girls ages 13-18 consists of one 82-page leader guide and 12 GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards postcards.
