Jennifer Nichols/ Archery

Jennifer Nichols is the No.1 ranked archer in the United States. Nichols had a triumphant year in 2004, she became the national indoor champion, Arizona Cup champion and Italian Grand Prix champion. She won the 2004 Olympic team trials, finishing with 259 points. At her first Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, she reached the women's 1/8 elimination round. In 2003 she was named the USA Archery Athlete of the Year for her outstanding performances – including a silver medalist at the world indoor championships, ranked first overall individual, first in team at the Pan American Games and first at U.S. Open. She was the indoor national champion in 2002 and the target national champion in 2001. Nichols started shooting archery when she was 11 years old after her father bought her a compound bow for Christmas. Soon after that, her parents acquired bows and they found archery to be a very enjoyable family sport and would shoot in their backyard for fun. She was home schooled by her parents through high school, graduating in 2002. Nichols currently teaches dance classes as well as takes classes herself. (10/04)
