Lilly scored the lone goal in the championship game and was named tournament MVP at the 2006 Peace Queen Cup in South Korea in November. A few weeks later, her penalty kick in the last seconds of overtime won the 2006 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup and completed an undefeated record (18-0-4) for the United States in 2006. Shortly after the Gold Cup, Lilly was named one of the three finalists for the 2006 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, eventually finishing second. In December, U.S. Soccer named her its 2006 Female Athlete of the Year. Lilly also scored the winning goal in the USA's 2-0 victory over Denmark to win the 2007 Algarve Cup title in Portugal. In April, in the USA's first domestic game on the road to the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, she scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Mexico. Lilly has also scored against Canada, Brazil and Japan this year. The native of Wilton, Conn., was given a special honor on Saturday, July 14, when the USA faced Norway at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., as that day was declared “Kristine Lilly Day” in Connecticut by Governor M. Jodi Rell. The USA responded with a 1-0 victory over Norway and Lilly got the assist on the winning goal. August 3 and August 13, 2007, marked the 20th anniversary of her first game and first goal, respectively, as a member of the U.S. National Women's Soccer Team. Lilly is the all-time leader in senior caps for both females and males with 340. She is also the all-time leader in minutes played and has been a veteran on the team for 20 years.
