Cassie Johnson/ Curling

Cassandra Johnson was a member of the 2006 U.S. Olympic curling team. In 2005 Johnson won the silver medal at the World Curling Championships and was awarded the Frances Brodie Award for sportsmanship at the world championships. A three-time U.S. women's national semifinalist in 2002, 2003 and 2004, Johnson first excelled at the junior level, taking the gold at the 2002 and 2003 U.S. junior national championships, the silver in 1998 and 2001 and the bronze in 1996, 1999 and 2000. On top of that she won the junior worlds in 2002 and was a silver medalist in 2003. She was the Minnesota state women's champion in 2004, the Wisconsin state women's champion in 2003 and a six-time Minnesota state junior women's curling champion. Johnson was a design technology major at Bemidji State University. She graduated in December and would like to pursue a career in either design technology or mathematics and became engaged the week after the 2006 Olympic Winter Games ended. (10/06)
