2008 Outstanding Journalist - Lesley Visser

 
Lesley Visser was honored for her extraordinary career as a sportscaster, spanning more than 30 years. She began her career at the Boston Globe in 1974 and two years later was the first female NFL beat writer at a time when “No Women or Children Allowed in the Press Box” was the standard. During her 30-year career as a sportscaster she continued to be first – the first woman assigned to “Monday Night Football,” the first woman assigned to a Super Bowl sideline, the first woman to preside over a Super Bowl Trophy presentation, the first woman to be enshrined by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the first and only woman to be featured on an NFL trading card and the first woman sportscaster to carry the Olympic Torch.
